Front Suspension System — Marussia Sports Car
The Challenge
The Marussia is a high-performance Russian sports car produced in limited quantities for custom orders. The front suspension required precise Ackermann steering geometry, calculated suspension travel and deflection under aerodynamic downforce loads, and a critical safety feature — the entire front suspension unit must detach cleanly in a collision to prevent the assembly from intruding into the cockpit and injuring the driver during a rollover.
Our Solution
Designed a complete double-wishbone front suspension system with calculated Ackermann steering geometry for optimal cornering behavior. Performed full analysis of suspension deflection and arm displacement under aerodynamic loading conditions at speed. Engineered a safety detachment system with calculated breakaway points — in a frontal impact or rollover, the entire suspension assembly separates as a single unit away from the chassis, eliminating the risk of suspension components penetrating the cockpit and injuring the driver.
Scope of Work
Full suspension geometry design, Ackermann angle calculations, aerodynamic load analysis, suspension travel and deflection calculations, safety detachment point engineering, 3D modeling, complete engineering documentation.
Result
Successfully designed and prototyped front suspension system meeting all performance and safety requirements. The safety detachment mechanism provides Formula-style driver protection for a road-legal sports car platform.
